| Hello again, my little group of champs in more ways than one!

Today I thought I would give you just a very few of the expressions that pro players use regularly and tell you what they mean.

Please don't feel insulted if you already know them. Remember -- I have scholars who range from you advanced ones all the way to brand new beginners. And I don't want to leave anybody out! Everyone should feel comfortably at home here.

So here goes -- just a few to start --

berry patch - an extremely easy game

sandbag - to check with a good hand, holding back raising, to get more money in the pot

rush - a streak by a player winning a large number of pots in a short period of time

live game - a game with lots of betting action

lock - a hand that is guaranteed to win at least part of the pot

crying call - a call by a player who is virtually certain he or she will not win the pot

crack - when a powerful hand is beaten

 liner - a face card

bottom pair - a pair with the lowest card on the flop

rags - cards that don't help your hand

snap off - to bluff and win - espacially sweet when the one you beat is often a bluffer

smooth call - to call bets when your hand is really strong enough to raise instead of just call

coffee housing - talking about your hand to try to mislead the other players

stack - all the chips you have at the table - whether you have any more at the cashier's office or not

Well, I hope all of you learned one or two new expressions at least.

By the way, PCers, I love to have you post back ANYTHING following my lessons. It looks bad on the admin books when it shows that a hundred and fifty members and guests read a lesson, but only 3 or 4 had anything to say afterwards. And don't think for a minute that I don't hear about it -- if you get my drift.

 Thanks, PCers!

 Your Guru

P.S. Now, my first year players __ you can talk the talk as well as walk the walk!

First, thank you for your responses! Appreciated very much!

These expressions have been used by players from every country whom I have played.

Bower, Hellmuth stays mad at me about half the time for saying the very same kinds of things you just said about or to him! If they were not too expensive to waste money on for a joke, I would give him a gift of a violin! LOL!
