Before I begin...what I write here is only to share some of my experiences and in no means to disrepect anyone at PC - especially Guru and his lessons regarding "luck"....

I was 8 yrs old...and my mom was at the lottery booth buying a Wintario ticket (for those living in Ontario, Canada - this was "THE" lottery ticket before Lotto 6/49 came out)...well..when the attendant took out the board with all the tickets....I stretched out and told my mom "This one!"...laughing she told me that she will buy me my own ticket...and so she bought me the ticket I had pointed at. The ticket hit for 5 out of 6 plus the bonus symbol - $10000. I totally forgot about it until graduation when I was presented with savings bonds that had matured by 10 years.

Panasonic - I was 10...and started collecting the little plastic things under the caps of Coca-Cola's - I got all the letters to spell out PANASONIC and won a Panasonic Stereo and TV set.

Took $500 to Casino Windsor - on the first day came home with $9000....5 days later came back...brought only $500 again...turned it into $52000. The Casino put up my friend and I for a couple of nights...and so on the 2nd night....won another $36000. We stayed for almost a good 2 1/2 months - hotel accomodations and all meals comped ($300/day) - received gift certificates to shop - a nice watch for my birthday - golf passes - all paid for by the casino.

Now here's a poker one I have to write about...

Playing in a friend's basement - 6 players playing..about 10 in total just sitting around and watching. I was dealt a 7 5 off. I looked at the cards...and immediately turn to a friend who was watching behind me...showed him the cards and told him..see these cards..I'm gonna win. Obviously he thought I was joking and laughed. I looked at him..and said "I'm serious...I'm gonna win." He shrugged me off with a "Whatever"...sure enough I call the blind...a player short stacked goes all in, another player calls...I call. Flop K 10 7...player bets...I raise....he re-raises...I call. Turn card is a 5. Player bets...I go all-in. Player has pocket K's...short stack player has pocket A's...I have my 7 5. Everyone in room started laughing..and call me crazy....I looked at my friend..he was shaking his head. Then the river card was opened - 5. Full house - to take down the house! My friend....he fell out of his chair in total disbelief...laughing uncontrollably...finally I was able to get in a "see...told ya."

I have more stories...more for later

I have this chinese middle name given to me by my grandfather - Sioe-Gie - my mom always told me it meant "lucky"; even though no one has ever heard of it or can confirm it with me.

I don't always win...but when I do...it's usually significant and to win as many "significant" times as I have...that would be considered lucky..no?

but let it be known...Guru and I have come to an agreement to not call it luck but call it "The Force" Flex

Kid, you are simply fascinated with this topic. aren't you? Why don't you want to take some credit for playing the good play instead of giving Luck all the credit for your many wins?

BUT - When I talk about Luck being worthless, I am speaking of nothing EXCEPT POKER!

We have all been convinced beyond the shadow of a doubt NOT to count on luck! I actually have numerous experiments to prove it - not a few incidental happenings.

ANYWAY - My biggest statement to you is this: THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS IN LIFE TO ANY RULE ---- but don't forget the word EXCEPTIONS!

Meantime ..... may the force be with you!!!

Your Guru

These pics were previously attached to another thread but what a perfect example/display of luck as in both hands I was surely a goner....but my good friend luck came and defies all odds to save me...and as rare that it may be to get one straight flush and to have it on the board and then to get it another one also on the board...but how about both on the same day

I do believe it is good to play the game with "good thinking" and to take the time to learn and gain the knowledge and strategies of poker. I believe in always thriving to become a better player. However, as part of the knowledge, strategy and theory of poker - I also believe a player should know that no matter who good you play, no matter how well thought out you have strategized and no matter how great or smart you are as a player - you will never beat luck.

if someone were to ask me to choose to between being a good player or a lucky player - although I would want to be seen and known as a good player -I choose first to be a lucky player. And since it's possible to be both - wow...imagine what a threat that would be.

Well, as it has always been said, that in the long run, the odds of winning hands will far out weigh the bad beats to the "lucky" players, but when playing online, i find this to be slightly less true alot of the times.

In live poker, you can pretty much count on AA being a winner at least 80% of the time, as online, i would say you are lucky to win 50% of the time.(note not complete accurate statistics, just an example)

But the majority of the time, in live poker the best hand holds up far more than it does online, and there could be many reasons why this is, not going to get into all of that, but to be a great online poker playr, i think one definitely needs a great amount of knowledge of the game, plus quite a bit of luck along the way as well.

As i posted in a previous thread of winning the Carbon $2,000 freeroll, i played the best poker i could play until down to about the last 65 players, and was just hoping at that point to just make the money, thats how unlikely i was to even make the money much less win, but blinded allin, i doubled, then tripled the very next hand, giving me a shot to get a little further and making the money, and as the hands went on, i had the better hands hold up, and some i was behind on pull through getting me tot he final table, where i played it as i just sit down, played smart, and waited for the smaller stacks to exiti, then opened my game up to get Heads Up and even got lucky hitting an open ended straight on a bluff to win the hand i was allin on, and eventually moving on to win the tournament.

So, to win huge online poker tournaments, you definitely gotta have some luck on your side to win it all. You shouldn't be playing to get lucky, but you need the luck that just happens.

This means you play smart and knowledgable poker all the way, and the times you may be wrong on a call of bluff, you better hope for the luck that just happens.

Aww how sweet, its always great when you find "The One" and it usually happens by accident, when you least expect it, or by "Luck" even. We all end up lucky one way or another whether it be in life or on the poker table.
