Online Poker Tournament Tips

There are specific tips to keep in mind when you're playing in online tournaments.

Consider the following:

Observe a few of the tournaments that you are interested in playing in and make
sure to take down notes and screen names to refer back to.

Practice in play-money tournaments as much as possible, make sure to take good notes
and write down screen names. You never know who may pop into a tournament that you are playing in.

If you play a solid game and wait for everyone else to make their mistakes and
bust out, you have a much better chance of finishing in the money.

Do not play marginal hands unless you are a blind and get to see the flop without a raise.
You want to prevent taking as many hits as possible by playing solid, premium starting hands.

When you have a superior hand, you want to get a sense of which opponents are on
strong drawing hands, and therefore pot committed, and then raise
in the hope of ending it right there before they draw out their cards.

Know when you are beat when you are on a drawing hand, and know that you should fold, rather than chase.

Save your chips for the more superior hands and fold marginal and drawing hands by the River.

Take notes, take notes, take notes.
The importance of strong observation skills and good note-taking skills cannot be emphasized strongly enough.

The small blind is the worst position to be in, so don’t expect too much from the hand because you are always going to be at a disadvantage to the other players at the table that have position on you. The reason why the small blind is such a difficult position is due to the fact that we are going to be first to act in every round after the flop. Never feel as if you are committed to the pot hand because half of your blind in already in the pot, you will be saving yourself money in the long run if you folded every marginal hand instead of calling. The best players in the world find it difficult to win money from the small blind, and that's just the way it is.

"play a solid game and wait for everyone else to make their mistakes"

THAT LINE IS THE HARDEST FOR ME, Poker is a game of PATIENCE more than anything else in my eyes.

Patience is a skill I have not learned, but thinking about others mistakes, is a way to help me be patient. Good Advice Archie Smile

One thing that I remember is to take down a pot as quick as you can. If you try to build up the pot by slow playing or minimum betting, you will lose some of those hands. Better off winning alot of small pots than a few large pots.
