KNOCKOUT TOURNAMENTS

Knockout tournaments, or "bounty" tournaments, are becoming increasingly popular in online poker. The premise is simple, your buy-in is divided three ways: prize pool, bounty, and, of course, rake. The prize pool and rake portions of the buy-in should be pretty easy to understand since every tournament has them. What makes a Knockout Tournament different is the bounty money. This is money that is "put on your head", so to speak, and awarded to the player who knocks you out of the tournament.
For example, a tournament has a buy-in of $24+$2. Of the $24 buy-in, $20 is placed in the prize pool and $4 is used as a bounty. This means you'll receive $4 for every player you knock out of the tournament and whoever knocks you out of the tournament will receive $4. If you happen to win the whole tournament, you'll get the 2nd place finisher's bounty as well as retain your own bounty money. After all, no one knocked you out.

i played in a couple of bounty tourneys before. didn't do too good...got knocked out early.

To be honest, this is the first that I heard of it. It sounds like fun with friends if the stakes weren't too high. In a competition with other poker players, I wouldn't try.

actually yes I have played a knockout tourney. I didn't win anything in the tourney itself but I did win 1 bounty once. It was a really small prize but it was fun to play.

Yes, I've played in some bounty tourneys. Mostly single table sit-n-go's on Merge sites such as Reefer, Carbon, and Iron Duke. Mixed results... pick up a bounty or two then get felted to pretty much much break even.They are an interesting change of pace.Don't remember playing any for more than $5 buy-in, though. Amusing how the "bounty hunters" play is altered trying to chase those rewards.

That is a very good point Rick! Albeit a tad bit less aggression than freerollers, you still find those "ALL-IN" players who luck into a few pots.
BowerCrush says, if luck really paid, then WSOP finalists would not contain familiar names consistently year after year after year.

yes I do they are my favorite type of poker tournaments I love knockin people out even when I don't collect a bounty for it so getting one is as good as it gets if you ask me lol

I love bounties & knockout tournaments; I usually play 9, 10, or 18 players tournaments; I do ok with them, but I usually don't play high buy ins. I did play the weekly bounty at Doyle's room, but I think they only pay a bounty if you knock out one of their players. Didn't do well in that one. But they are my current favorite type of tourney, for about the last 6 months or so.
