I know this will sound strange but the female who influenced me most while growing up was me. By watching and listening to my family and relatived, nuns, teachers etc I would make up my own mind what I wanted to incorporate into my life and what I definately did not want to.
I took examples around me how people lived their lives and knew what I wanted to do with my own life. Sure my mom was an influence but she was both a good one and a bad one. I knew what I didn't want in my life from part of the way she lived hers. I took wisdom from one of my Aunts, I took dedication and hard work from another Aunt.
Pieces here and there but almost all major decisions in my life came from me. I am not talking just about my adult life but my years from very young around 6 and all through my teenage and adult life.

My mom has shown me strength beyond measure. She endured the death of both of her parents only 6 months apart when she was younger. She was always the voice of reason and never lets me down. Again she showed great poise and grace when dealing with the death of my brother and my father just 2 months apart. Has always taught me that your glass is always no matter what half full. I give thanks for each and every day I have my mother. Tell your mom every day you love her. I do.

I would just love to say my mom like most but that is really not the case. I really can't think of any special woman or otherwise that was a great and loving influence in my life. so I will say it is the lord.the only one who has never let me down.

I'm thankful for my mom. Especially for all she has endured in order to provide me a life in Canada. My dad and mom came to Canada with nothing. Two years after my birth in Toronto, my dad passed away leaving my mom alone in a foreign country to raise and support me. I had to taken care of by daycare centres, babysitters and neighbours as she worked long hours to earn enough to provide for us. There were times that I remember resenting her for not being there but as I grew up I realize that not being able to spend time with was not what she wanted but in order for us to live a life in Canada it was a sacrifice she needed to do. I'm thankful to her because I'm proud and glad to be born and raised a Canadian and it was because of her that I can say "I AM".

I am thankful for " Georgia " my Foster Parent for being the Mother figure in my life.
She taught me I had value and could be loved.
And that nothing is impossible ..
She went back to colleage and became a Nurse at the age of 36, while working and raising children.

There were several women I am thankful I had in my life at one time or another and couldn't just single one out. Every year from 5th to 10th grade either a teacher, a school nurse, a cafeteria lady or even a principal once took me under their wing and made me feel like someone cared about me when I needed it most. If not for them I may not be here now, and knowing thier influence in my life lead to my being alive today is something to really be thankful for.

I didn't know what I was going to write until I saw Valeria's post. (ty Val) I had 9 brothers and a mom who really didn't like me very much. So, in the end it was up to me to make decisions. Some decisions were not the best, I see that now, but that is how we learn.

I am most thankful for my Great Grandmother...I lived with her & my Pap for the first 9 years of my life; after that I went to live with my mother & step father. That family life was a mess, and I credit my Great Grandmother for giving me the strength to stay sane and not grow up to be a total wreck. She died when I was 12 but I remember her always.

I was influenced most by my mother. We lost our father at an early age and our mother never remarried. She raised all 6 of us by herself on a low income. We were always put first before anything and anyone. If she could see us all now. she'd be proud of us. We all have lovely families. But she should be proud of herself because we all inherited our parenting skills from her.
