Poker Royale uses the EverLeaf Gaming Network. It's the same software that Poker4ever, PokerAri, JohnnyBlack Poker and many other sites.
Right now you are permitted to having one account on the EverLeaf Network. The affiliates have been told that in the future that will be changed, but no changes have been made yet. The only private games that you will be permitted to play are private games hosted by the affiliate link you signed up with. So if you download from an affiliate that doesn't host any private games, you will never get to play any.
The way the EverLeaf Network works, if you did not sign up under Poker Joe's affiliate link, you would not be able to view the freeroll. I'm pretty sure there was a freeroll, but only those players who used the correct link could view it and register.
The software isn't bad, but the one account rule and the private games rule makes it very hard for any of the sites to grow.
