POKERGURU PRESENTS (Archive) - CONTEST: My Area - Winner Announced! PokerGuru - 21.10.2007, 10:29 Post subject: CONTEST: My Area - Winner Announced!Hello PCers!
Here's another chance to win $30.
Every place in the world is different in some ways from every other place.
Just tell us about the area where you live. You may focus in and make your area as small as your street or neighborhood. OR you may expand the area all the way to the part of the world in which you live. Your choice!
Deadline: last day of the month.
Remember: You must have 3000 PC points to redeem for your cash if you win. If you do not have 3000, you will receive 3000 PC points in lieu of the cash, so you will have them next time you win.
Remember: If you win and live in the USA, you must PM Geno, if you have not already (only once is necessary) and give him youe QuickTender account number. Everybody, no matter where you live, must have an online banking site that we also use, so we will know where to send your money.
Remember: Instead of cash, if you win, you MAY choose Crusher merchandise of an equal value. Find our Crusher store in the dark red area at the top of every page. The quality of the merchandise is superior!
Winners will be chosen at complete and total blind random, so every entrant has a chance of winning. (If people start slacking off in the quality of their entries, just to get something entered, that practice will change and only the entry judged the best will win!) (Yes, the Guru has to run a tight ship, in order to assure fairness to all.)
Okay. Now tell us all about your area!kkrisqmb - 21.10.2007, 13:32 Post subject: my area

I live in a small suburb of cleveland, ohio, Oakwood Village, our village is special, neighbors are close, and we are safe from preditors, with our block watch, I have never felt safe as this before, we can leave our doors unlocked, if my children cone home from school and there is no one home they can go to a neighbors house and wait until I get home or the neighbor will let them in our house with a spare key, and continue to check on my children during the time I am not at home, not having to worry about my children being hurt or molested.

I live in a very small little town in the middle of the State of Wisconsin . It is so small that all your neighbors know one another . Every day I get to speak to one or two of them a day . I am getting complement every day on how much we have improved our yard here . See we just bought this 107 year old house on in May this year . And the yard was over taken with 3 feet tall weeds . It had flower beds you did not know it had . The owner just did not take care of it any more . It really needed some good loving care . And we my hobby and I wanted to give it so much . We don't have much money to live on so every thing we do is by old fashion way . I edge the lawn with a Ice chopper and what a fine job that dose . I have made 2 rock garden in the front yard from granite rocks which we have gathered from many places . We cut down trees with just a hand saw because that’s all we have to work with . And dug out the stumps by hand too . Replaced them with other trees too . My rock garden is filled with flowers of all kinds and I am out there every day weeding . You will not find a weed in them unless it is a wild flower of my chose .We put up a arch way the the front sidewalk going to the front door .And filled it with climbing flowers . We have a flower bed that goes all around the whole house . Every one that see me or my hubby out side just can't believe the change , that is why we talk to some one every day
That is my house so far

Even though I have lived in Oregon for the last 25 years, my true "HEART HOME" is Montana where I was born and raised. So when someone asks me where I live or where my home is I always feel strange saying Oregon because to me it is Montana. Big Sky Country. I was born in Great Falls, Montana and lived there till I was in my mid 30's. The people were fantastic. It had a very small town feel and very Country Western.
The mountains are fantastic, the views inspiring. The wildlife in abundance everywhere you go. It used to be 10 minutes out of town you would see mountain goats, antelope covering a hillside. Elk, bear, deer, moose all around. It is a true cowboy place and an outdoor persons paradise. I hope it hasn't changed too much in the last 25 years but I sincerely doubt it.
Some day I will go back there even if it is to bury me LOL

Southern California is my home of last 11 years.Over those years I learned to like it, even I am still not crazy about it.But at least we have mountains here, not like flat Florida .Sorry Guru, I was at Florida many ,many times, and some how I didn`t find it atractive. Luck of winters and snow makes me go to mountains just to see the snow often.I have 30 miles drive to Pacific Ocean , 10 miles to Big Bear Mountains an altitude of nearly 7,000’ and around 10 miles to huge desert behind those mountains.Ok, I forgot ... I have 250 miles drive to Las Vegas ... !!!!!

Much like Valeria, I've lived for 32 years in Halifax Nova Scotia...but the home of my heart is Inverness ,Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Cape Breton is an island in the cold North Atlantic and is hugged on its western shore by the Gulf of St Lawrence.
Inverness is a small village whose population was about 1500 when I was growing up in the 60's and 70's. There were only two churchs, the protestant and catholic churchs. Their steeples were visible from anywhere in town. Except for the main street , all other streets were unpaved with numerous potholes. There was one tavern in town and one restaurant. Most houses were built on wooden sills and were heated by coal stoves in the kitchen, and a "Warm Morning" potbelly stove in the living room, in which you could burn just about anything that had outlived its usefullness! Indoor washrooms were not yet a regular part of everyday living...so a trip to the outhouse during an east coast blizzard is an experience not easily forgotten by a young impressionable mind.
When all is said and done though...it's the people of the island that make it such an unforgettable experience. If one family is in need of ANYTHING , you can be sure that it will be provided by their neighbours. Its a place where bankers would loan money based on a mans handshake. His handshake was his bond....and you had better not question it, or you could experience the other form his hand could take...a fist!!
It was life back then ...and yes ....I miss it terribly!!!!!

I live in Winona, MN which i like to refer as the San Francisco of Minnesota. One of the most beautiful cities, but a lot of weird people of which i proudly belong. Winona is on the Mississippi River nestled in 300 foot bluffs which the glaciers that flattened most of the state in the last ice age went around, leaving a beautiful setting in which to live. Good place to raise kids with good schools, lots of parks and recreational activities and strong, community values....except for those weirdos!!

Being Spook's brother I guess I have to describe the province since he did a great job describing Inverness.Nova Scotia is on the East coast of Canada. It's known as Canada's ocean playground which is appropriate as over 3/4 of it is surrounded by ocean. It has medium temperatures,a few really cold ones in winter and a few really hot in summer.we have a coupla cities but is mostly small towns and fishing villages. The fall colour scheme of our trees is absolutely amazing, bright orange, red and yellow. The views in our highlands is a must see to believe.

I live in Halifax Nova Scotia. Spook and Bower have already spoken about its natural beauty so I'll expound a little on its local history. Halifax suffered the unfortunate fate of experiencing the largest manmade explosion ever up until that time in Dec 6, 1917 when the Mont Blanc and the Imo collided in the Halifax Harbour. The Mont Blanc was a munitions ship and the Imo was a relief supplies ship. There were 1500 people killed instantly and 500 others from collateral damage. Halifax's waterfront and surrounding areas were leveled to the ground and one of the ships anchors was thrown over two miles!
