Here is something I usually ask during a poker game: why do we call it "poker"? you will be amazed by the number of different explenations i get, and how confident everyone is of their own theory. I checked it in wikipedia, but to me they just have one theory of their own.

Well, I'm positive I have the correct reason why this wonderful game is named so.
Many year's ago during a late night game, a lady who was playing had a little to much to drink and nodded off to sleep during a hand. When her turn came and she didn't move, someone shouted 'Poker, see if she's awake'. That is how 'Poker' got it's name.

Thank You Galaxy,
Very informative,
The Brittish version of ' Three Card Brag ,' was our main game every card night, along with 1 or 2 novelty game's for change. Then I discovered Hold 'em. I haven't played any other game since, they all seem quite tame compared to poker,
So Goodbye forever Queeny, Crash, Chase the Ace, Three Card Brag, Rummy, Killer. You ain't got what Poker's got

Poker has many variations, all following a similar pattern of play. Depending on the variant, hands may be formed using cards, which are concealed from others, or from a combination of concealed cards and community cards.
