Chris Moneymaker was the underdog accountant from Tennessee who won the 2003 World Series. He won his entry into the tournament by playing a $40 satellite at PokerStars and ended up winning $2,500,000 at the WSOP.

After he won his trip to the WSOP, he hardlt had enough money for the cost of flying and staying in Vegas for the week and fianced this trip by selling a portion of his entry to his father and a friend to cover the cost for the trip in exchange for a portion of his winnings.

Many people think Chris won because he got lucky. There have been a number of times where he got very lucky (especially against Humberto Brenes and also by knocking out Phil Ivey on the river on the hand ), he definitely seemed to play a solid game where he could mix it up and get very aggressive. Most people would agree that in order to win an 800-person tournament you need to get lucky at least once or twice.

Chris had been working two jobs - one as an accountant and part-time in a local restaurant - and playing poker for three years before he won the Series, but had never played a live tournament.

Chris hails from Spring Hill, Tennessee, is the father of a baby girl and plans to use his money to put his daughter through college, and of course return next year to the World Series of Poker to defend his title where Ungar, Moss, Brunson and Chan are the only men to ever defend a WSOP title.

We wish Chris the best of luck in all future tournaments.

That's a LOT of players! To be the last one standing at the end of that must have been some kind of awesome.

And I bet anyone who finished anywhere worth writing home about knows they got lucky more than "once or twice" to get there!

Me, I gotta get lucky every hand if I'm gonna last 20 minutes in any big multitable. Sometimes, maybe even more than once in the same hand!

Good luck everyone and have fun!
