Lots of stories float around about the "Dead Man's Hand". Here is the true story:

James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok was enshrined as a charter member of the Poker Hall of Fame at Binion's in 1979.

Wild Bill traveled with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show as a sharpshooter after duty as a scout in the US Civil War.

In 1876, he was shot in the back by "Crooked Nose McCall" while playing cards and died at the age of 39.

The Aces and eights he was holding at the time of his death became known as the "Dead Man's Hand".
